Christian Friedl is Senior Lecturer at the Institute of International Management at FH Joanneum - University of Applied Sciences in Graz.

He is teaching at Masters and Bachelor Level (Business Development, Entrepreneurship, Innovation & Project Management.)

His research focus is on corporate entrepreneurship, open innovation and edupreneurship.

We recently interviewed him about a new MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) on the topic of intrapreneurship.

1 Why is intrapreneurship an important topic?

Large companies struggle to survive in an increasingly disruptive and uncertain economic world. Traditional management approaches seem to offer insufficient answers to today’s innovation challenges. The concept of “intrapreneurship” – where dedicated entrepreneurial employees innovate within companies – is recognised as a promising approach to this challenge. Employees have exclusive insights into business processes and recognise great business opportunities which could be exploited by their companies.

As nice side effect, employees gain new professional skills and motivation for the job, increase their independence and raise their employability. But there are many ways to do it wrong, therefore we decided to offer this massive, scalable and open learning opportunity and connect hundreds of intrapreneurs so as to unleash their potential.

2 How did you go about developing the MOOC?

The course was developed under the umbrella of the EU-funded project BizMOOC, between two universities and two business partners, to bring in the expertise from both sides. It became a finalist for the Teaching Innovation and Entrepreneurship Excellence Award of the European Conference on Innovation and Entrepreneurship and is now offered in a new version on the renowned openSAP platform.

3 Who is the MOOC aimed at?

Anyone interested in business innovation, intrapreneurship, and re-inventing their work. There are no prerequisites. The course language is English.

The MOOC development team - The development team consists of experts from universities (FH JOANNEUM Graz, Austria & University of Economics Cracow, Poland) and businesses (AVL List GmbH Graz, Austria & openHPI, Potsdam Germany) who have joined together to offer you an innovative course experience on the topic of “intrapreneurship". 4 What topics will be covered?

The course explains the intrapreneurship concept, outlines the opportunities it provides for employees and companies, and introduces a toolbox to turn your ideas into action. It will bring learners from different companies, countries, and cultures together to discuss changes and challenges, and work on intrapreneurial ideas. Participants are invited to bring in their own ideas and develop a pitch strategy for a business opportunity.

5 How much time will it take?

The duration is 4 weeks with a workload of 3-4 hours per week.

6 How can anyone who is interested enrol?
